Saint Peter Port
Porta San Pietro is a port of the walls of Lucca, which looks towards the south. It was established between 1565 and 1566 and is part of the walls of the Renaissance. It was designed by Alessandro Resta.
Porta San Pietro opens with three doors surmounted at the center of a shield with the emblem of St. Peter with the words "libertas" and on the sides by two lions placed in niches in the ancient openings through which flowed the chains that operated the old drawbridge. The side openings have been practiced after the attainment of the goal. The door has an elegant, classical pediment that inelegantisce structure.
To date, the side doors are used for pedestrian traffic, while the central opening is the road to traffic.
